Cooking has never been so easy or fun!
To care for a cast iron skillet, clean it immediately after use with warm water and a mild soap if needed, then dry it thoroughly by heating it on a stove or in an oven. Next, apply a thin layer of neutral oil, like canola oil, to the entire surface, and store it in a dry place, ideally with a paper towel to absorb any moisture. Regular use and proper seasoning with oil after each use are the best ways to maintain your pan.
Cleaning
- Address food immediately: Scrape out any food and fat from the hot pan right after cooking.
- Scrub with warm water: Use warm water and a non-abrasive scrub brush, pad, or scraper to remove food particles.
- Use mild soap if necessary: A small amount of mild dish soap is acceptable for cleaning stubborn residue on well-seasoned pans.
- Rinse thoroughly: Wash the pan with hot water and make sure all food and soap are removed.
Drying
- Wipe it dry: Use a clean cloth or paper towel to wipe the pan dry.
- Heat it to remove moisture: Place the skillet on a warm burner or in a warm oven for a few minutes to ensure all moisture has evaporated, preventing rust.
Seasoning
- 1. Oil the pan:
While the pan is still warm, pour a small amount of cooking oil (such as canola, vegetable, or safflower) into the pan.
- 2. Wipe the oil:
Use a paper towel to wipe the oil around the entire cooking surface, creating a thin, even layer.
- 3. Store properly:
Store your skillet in a dry place. For stacked pans, place a paper towel between them to prevent scratching.
Key Tips
- Avoid soaking:
Never soak your cast iron pan, as this can damage the seasoning and cause rust.
- Don't use harsh abrasives:
Steer clear of steel wool or other extremely abrasive scrubbers that could strip the seasoning.
- Cook often:
The more you use your cast iron skillet, the better the seasoning becomes, leading to a longer-lasting and more durable cooking surface.
Note - the Hub and the TruFirePan will be very hot, please use appropriate gloves and tongues when handling them after use.
